Torremolinos, the cradle of tourism in Spain

Pioneer of tourism in Spain, in Torremolinos you have the largest range of day or night leisure you can imagine. Ahead of its time, this small fishing town in the middle of the last century reinvented itself to offer the entire world an unforgettable experience of fun, building the largest tourist infrastructure known to date in Spain. Its magnificent facilities designed to achieve the complete well-being of the tourist, along with the friendliness and natural joy of its people, have provided the necessary spark to captivate its visitors over time. That is why, since 1950, the visits of the most famous characters of each era follow one another. Torremolinos is one of the most popular tourist destinations for Hollywood actors, European royalty, internationally famous singers, artists, intellectuals, aristocrats, ... Likewise, its open and liberal atmosphere has also consolidated gay tourism and nightlife.

Cinema and television have also wanted to capture the attraction that this city creates in the world, which is why it is usually the setting for movies and television series.

In Torremolinos we find fun for all tastes and ages. If you want to entertain yourself and have unforgettable experiences with the whole family, be sure to visit the Cocodrile Park, its Water Park, its 18th century Botanical Garden, playgrounds, merry-go-rounds, etc… In the main and most commercial streets you will find all kinds of stores that will allow you to buy everything you want. The centre is full of restaurants where you can taste rice, seafood and popular tapas. Surely on hot summer nights you want to listen to open-air music concerts in Plaza de la Nogalera. It is the meeting point to visit the pubs and bars in the surroundings.

You will love strolling through the alleys full of multi-coloured pots of the traditional Barrio de la Carihuela, where fishermen who still go to sea in their boats or "seine" boats still live in their white houses. Visit its small souvenir shops and delight in savouring the exquisite fish in its traditional bars.

If you want to spend a relaxed day in a beautiful natural environment, in El Pinar de los Manantiales, located in the upper part of Torremolinos, you will find an immense pine forest and natural sources of very fresh water that has a table area and barbecue to enjoy a pleasant lunch with family and friends. The most prepared athletes will love to walk the hiking route that leads to the Mirador Cañada del Lobo and observe its wonderful views.

The beach bar, the hallmark of Torremolinos

Located on the Costa del Sol, Torremolinos has 7 kilometres of coastline, where its extensive fine sand beaches delight all its tourists. Among the most important beaches we highlight:

  • Los Álamos
  • Playamar
  • El Bajondillo
  • La Carihuela

Its main beaches, El Bajondillo and La Carihuela, are separated by a popular cliff known as El Morro or La Punta de Torremolinos. The huge Paseo Marítimo de Torremolinos is accessible practically from any point in the town. It is a meeting point for athletes, skaters, cyclists along the bike path, and of course, a place for walking and entertainment for its visitors where you will find some of the most representative entertainment venues at night in Torremolinos. If you like to stay up late and enjoy leisure until dawn, in the Beach Clubs of Los Alamos Beach you will find a whole world to discover: Balinese beds, chill out, theme parties ...

The beach bar is one of the tourist icons of Torremolinos. Over the years, these infrastructures located on the beach have been transformed, offering modern facilities and high quality in the products they offer. They have increased their services by offering, in addition to lunch and dinner, numerous leisure activities, hammocks to relax and enjoy refreshing cocktails while you watch the sea, live music, ... all without losing the essence of a typical and exquisite local gastronomy: You will love to savour its “Pescaíto frito” or its “sardines espetás” (Espeto is a traditional technique of roasting sardines and anchovies next to the coals, previously sticking the fish in reeds).

A bit of history …

The name of Torremolinos comes from the Muslim era, around the 13th or 14th centuries, when several mills were built in the area around the Torre Pimentel, a coastal watchtower whose function was to spot pirate ships to protect the population... Currently, this emblematic tower, icon of Torremolinos, can be visited from the outside. It is located in a typical traditional area full of craft and gift shops.
